Dave and Pauline Elliott are hosting this complimentary Welcome Reception at the home of one of David’s ancestors, Alexander Black, a community leader. Join us for beverages and hor d’oeuvres at what’s being called Blacksburg’s Living Room. Black was a businessman and founder of the National Bank of Blacksburg. He was a son of Dr. Harvey Black, an Army physician in the Mexican War and surgeon and leader of the field hospital for the Army of Northern Virginia during the Civil War. After the war, he practiced in Blacksburg and served as president of the board of trustees for the Olin and Preston Institute, was instrumental in getting the land grant college designation for what became Virginia Tech.
